Joy

This week the Advent candle is for joy.  I loved the bible verse for joy this week.  It was when Mary visited Elizabeth.

During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.  And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?  For at the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.  Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."

                                                                                                             Luke 1:39-45

I find that verse endearing.  I used to be a RN and I worked in the newborn nursery.  Infants will have this reaction called a startle reflex.  It is actually something that is assessed in newborns with their initial examination.  

Anyway, like Elizabeth; one time I am doing the dishes and I am pregnant with my youngest son, I look up and catch my oldest son doing something (I can't even remember now?) and I yelled at him very loudly.  My youngest son in my womb had the startle reflex and I felt it.  It was sweet, even though I was sorry I scared him.  It meant not only could I tell he could hear, he was also neurologically healthy to have that reflex.  A sweet reminder of the joy of the goodness of the Lord.

Home Sweet Home #227

Hello and welcome to Home Sweet Home!  This week I shared my new favorite table accessory in Starfish Lace. 

I also baked up some delicious cookies in Glazed Cream Cheese Lemon Cookies.

How is this for cooling you off for the 4th?  I am so going to try this recipe next week!  The Lou Lou Girls shared Watermelon Lime Sorbet.  Yumo! 

Jolena at While I Linger shared The Lazy Gardner and her garden was beautiful! 

Debbie at One Little Project shared the 50+ Raspberry Recipes.  It was a great roundup of recipes and she also has a link to the 50 best blueberry, strawberry, and watermelon recipes.  Perfect resource for summer deliciousness!

I am sharing some quotes on friendship that remind me of some of the sweet friends I have met blogging.  One of these sweet people responded to a comment I made about these votives recently and then she mailed some to me.  Thank you so much Pat from On Crooked Creek.  The votives smell perfect for fall, they have a scent of tobacco.  Many times I have felt rekindled by my friendships with all of you reading my blog.  It is truly a blessing!

The saucer is marked Olde English Countryside by Johnson Brothers.  I am not sure the cup is it's match but, it is marked Made in England.

A Classic Fall Mantel

I have got a classic look going on here for the fall mantel.  I am still trying to decorate with out spending any money.  So I shopped the house and pulled out the pewter.

Just a little bit of bittersweet and the mantel will stay right through Thanksgiving.

You could copy this idea with any dishes; for example, transferware, ironstone, or vintage dishes of any pattern. 

Something simple and something free makes for easy decorating.

I am trying to get my fall decorating on this week.  I put the candles out first and they smell so good.  This is getting me in the mood, mulled cider, and pumpkin spice.  Are you taking note of the fall parties?

Mantel Change Up

I have been very slow to do anything with my mantel this winter.  It looked like this through January.

A lot of it was leftover from my Christmas decor, pictured here.

But, I am getting 'cottage fever' and needed to change things up.  So, I brought this large cottage print out to the living room from my dining room and placed it here.   I really like it in this spot.

I placed a cloche on some tattered old books and some feather picks in an urn.  It seems unless it is a holiday, less is more on the mantel.

The candles smell so good and warm us on the cold winter days.  Speaking of the weather, thank you so much for all the warm wishes about taking care in the winter storm!!!  You blogging buddies are some of the most wonderful people!  I am humbled daily by your generous spirits!  Again, thank you!:)
