Why I Don't Celebrate Halloween Anymore

Why I Won't Celebrate Halloween: Galatians 5: The Charm of Home

I used to really celebrate Halloween on this blog. I no longer celebrate it or honor any post that celebrates it by leaving it on my blog party. This year I am going tell you why I don't celebrate it anymore.
There are spiritual truths. They are how things work in the spiritual realm. The spiritual realm is real and it is written about in the Bible everywhere. I didn't use to see it but, the Lord has opened my eyes and I want to tell you how it works.

In 1 Corinthians 5 the Apostle Paul condemns spiritual pride. (I am using NLT.) There is a believer that is living in sin and Paul tells the church how to deal with this man.

Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit.[b]And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man in the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church.[c] I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus. Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed[d] and he himself[e] will be saved on the day the Lord[f] returns. 1 Corinthians 5:3-5

What is happening here is the believer is living in his sin and he has no intention of repenting. So the man is to be thrown out of the church and they let Satan destroy his sinful nature. Satan gets to work him over.
We see this written about in several places.
Job: (although Job was considered a righteous man)
One day the members of the heavenly court[a] came to present themselves before the Lord, and the Accuser, Satan,[b] came with them.“Where have you come from?” the Lord asked Satan.
Satan answered the Lord, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.”
Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.”
Satan replied to the Lord, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God.10 You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! 11 But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”
12 “All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence.
Job 1:6-12
Jesus speaks to Peter:
31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.
Luke 22:31
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8
I don't celebrate the pagan holiday of Halloween because the Lord has shown me how he feels about it.
Exodus 22:18
18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Galatians 5:19-21
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Leviticus 19:26
“Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft."
Leviticus 19:31
31 “Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God.
Micah 5:12
I will put an end to all witchcraft,
and there will be no more fortune-tellers.
Revelation 22:14-15

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.
Ephesians 5:11
14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
Revelation 22:14-15
Jesus' advice about our sinful nature:
30 And if your hand—even your stronger hand[a]—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
Matthew 5:30
I don't want to ever be tested by Satan again, (read My Testimony) so for my Actions to Prove My Faith, I will honor the Lord with this blog and not celebrate Halloween.
Yes, even churches are celebrating Halloween. I would think real hard about a church doing this and decide if being a member is worth it. We all have The Choice.
As believers we are grafted into the vine and our actions prove our faith.
“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more."
John 15:1-2

All glory and honor to my Lord Jesus Christ,
I will be linking up with these parties:

Wonderful Wednesday at Marilyns Treats

Hello sweet Sherry! Good for you for posting this! I posted something similar on my blog 3 years ago. It used to be, my church (I used to attend) did not celebrate it either. Then, our Sr. Pastor became ill and was forced to retire. The new pastor had a different view and joined in with ALL THE OTHER CHURCHS in our town and they all celebrate and give a long list of reasons why it's ok. I never volunteer to be a part of this so-called outreach night and I simply stay home. I was so encouraged with all of the positive comments I got when I posted this on my blog, I wanted to do the same for you. Perhaps it should be called "Halloweak" ;)
Have a lovely week friend!

Thank you for posting this. I join in on your stand not to celebrate Halloween. I haven't celebrated for several years. I wanted to join with other bloggers to participate as a host of linky parties, and I decided I couldn't make a stand with other host joining their blog and allowing others to celebrate. God has blessed me with my stand and I wouldn't have it any other way. Your boldness is refreshing! xoxo Kay

Hi Sherry! I am praising the Lord that there are others who are publicly declaring that God means what he says. I do not "celebrate" Halloween, either. Our church used to hold a "Harvest Party" as an outreach to community but, truth be told, a rose by any other name is still a rose. My husband and I were convicted that no matter what it was called the neighboring community only saw it as a halloween party where church kids dressed up, got candy, ect. For the 2 years we participated I dressed my kiddos like little lambs, Moses, ect but we were not the norm; pirates, ballerinas and the like were more common. When we stopped participating we were called legalists and were talked about by fellow believers- hard to endure when it comes from the church. 20 years later we no longer defend our position but trust that as the Lord moves he will produce the fruit he desires in brothers and sisters. While we don't advertise our position on this issue we do answer biblically when asked. My blog will not have a halloween post, either. I am encouraged by your post and wanted to encourage you, sister- stay the course for the glory of the Lord.

Since I started a blogspot blog in 2009, this has been probably the most annoying thing every fall. Today is my last blog party but for years I would ask ladies please, please, no Halloween posts. It was impossible as one way or the other - it showed up. It is sad how even Christians become entangled. I don't like seeing it in my sidebar links either but there it shows up.

On the other hand, I do not have a problem with Christians providing an alternative evening such as a Harvest Festival, etc. I think it nice for children to have something unrelated to Halloween to look forward too.

Bernideen, I owe you an apology. I do believe that I probably brought halloween to your tea party, I linked up like always and didn't read that you asked me not to link halloween. I am now having that same problem at my blog party. I also have a problem with mandalas, dream catchers, and any other piece of witchcraft that has made it into the home decorating trends.(Just google that, if you doubt it)
Thank you all for your support. It is a real shame that so many people have no idea where they are spiritually because they follow the world. I was one of them. They really don't know what they are doing. It comes with a heavy spiritual consequence. When the Lord wills it He can call in that debt at any time and turn you over to Satan. Satan is a life ruiner. The only true way out of this is through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Dear Sherry, I think you know that I do not celebrate Halloween or anything that closely resembles it. I too had trouble with folks sharing their Halloween posts at my tea parties and it always bothered me. Coming on the end of them, I think the ladies were more aware that I didn't care for them.
The Lord opened my eyes concerning that most wicked holiday when my son was a baby. God somehow spoke to me and led me to check it out in the encyclopedia and what I found was very disturbing. So we never did take part in it. When our children were growing up, like minded Christian friends would join us and take our children bowling and then back to the church for a party of games and treats. No Halloween treats though. Our children never felt deprived and always enjoyed themselves. It is the responsibility of we Christian parents, our teachers and preachers of the Word to teach the importance of not participating in Halloween but sadly many do not see it as dangerous. Anyway, Hubby and I took a stand many years ago and I'm thankful for those of you like yourself, Sherry, who also have. The Lord bless you for obeying Him and bringing the Light to Blogland! Hugs to you!

Sandi, I am sorry to you also for posting halloween on your tea parties. I am pretty sure I did it. I am so thankful that the Lord had me woke up to this. His sheep know Him and follow His voice. John 10:14

Yes, Halloween is a tool of the devil. And it is getting worse every year, with little children dressing up in evil costumes. How it breaks my heart.
In the past, I have always turned off my outside lights and posted a sign saying Sorry, No Treats.
These past 2 years, 2 men from our church have sat in my carport and handed out Gideon New Testament Bibles. (I live in a townhouse complex) Our public schools no longer allow Bibles to be handed out, so the Gideons look for other ways to get New Testaments into peoples hands.
Bless you and your blog.

I so agree with you dear friend. I have been thinking the same, although it was fun for me with my little girls, it will not be anymore. My faith in our Lord Jesus Christ does not call for this celebration type.
Blessings.

Thank you for sharing, Sherry. Halloween is a wicked thing. My children and I used to participate until the Lord took away my blinders about eight years ago. Your post is encouraging, and I believe others will take a stand for righteousness after reading it.

Sherry, Thank you for your stand.... and for visiting my blog post on the subject also and leaving an encouraging comment. What a blessing that many are turning from the dark celebrations even while so many glory in the evil represented there. It has been a source of great concern for me for years...

May God, alone, be praised.
