An Angel in the House
How sweet it were, if without feeble fright,
Or dying of the beauteous, dreadful sight,
An angel came to us, and we could bear
To see him issue from the silent air
At evening in our room, and bend on ours
His divine eyes, and bring us from his bowers
News of dear friends and children who have never
Been dead indeed, as we shall know for ever,
Alas! we think not what we daily see
About our hearths, angels that are to be.
Or may be if they will; and we prepare
Their souls and ours to meet in happy air,
A child a friend, a wife, whose soft heart sings
In unison with ours, waiting for future wings.

How very lovely--your photographs; nostalgia, sweetness and assurance. Thank you for sharing them and for also posting the lovely poem about the angel. When I first saw the photograph of the book and the poem I immediately thought--oh I so wish I can read that poem… and then, you had it posted it for us to read it. How nice! Thank YOU and thanks for participating in our Show Off Your Cottage Monday and bringing us here!

Oh, I thought I made a comment, but now it appears as if I did not?? So I shall again!
Your post is lovely, with your beautiful large images! The vignettes are so comforting. Your white tea cup is simple and sweet, I love the fancy handle. I love white china as it looks so beautiful with just about anything.
Your angel poem was sweet to read!
Hugs,
Terri
Faded papery roses with your antique book, a nice setting for tea today. I've never thought of angels as male, this surprised me in the poem.

Sheri: A lovely poem. I love today's post. Thanks for sharing it! Hugs, Martha
How pretty...such lovely photos.
The poem gave me pause for thought, a lot of thought. Beautiful post. "About our hearths, angels that are to be.." written in a time when most families suffered the death of at least one child, maybe more. Very thought-provoking, and sad.
Beautiful poem and even prettier pictures. My mom has always loved hourglasses, so it was especially nice seeing yours displayed se well. All around lovely vignette! Thank you for adding this to my party. I appreciate you supporting me in my new party. I'll be by to see you on Friday!
Hi Sherry,
the poem is lovely and so are the vignettes. All looks really romantic. Thank you for sharing.
Best greetings, Johanna
Beautiful poem and vignette! I'm visiting from the Cozy Home Party.
Sherry, this is quite a lovely post! The image of the opened book, the dried roses, the hourglass books and cup is wonderful! I love that you shared the poem - what sweet thoughts of comfort! Thank you for sharing with A Return To Loveliness,
