Bokeh Party

I am happy to join Tracy at her blog Tracy's Trinkets and Treasures for a bokeh party.   Bokeh is the blurring you see in photography while the main subject is focused on.  I have been taking a lot of photos with bokeh lately.  Tell me if you like it or you feel like you need to reach for some reading glasses.

Does it bother you to have so much of a photo blurry?  My husband saw the second picture on my blog this weekend and he said I need to make some photos normal.  I understood what he meant.  These photos were taken with a inexpensive macro lens that goes with my Cannon Eos Rebel.

This, and the next few pictures are just using the camera on it's close-up setting.

This is what I thought bokeh was, just points of light that were out of focus and blurred.  But, joining Tracy's party was great because it made me realize the other photos also are considered examples of bokeh.  Tracy you taught me something.  This is why I love joining you guys on blog parties.  There are so many helpful and talented people on blogs.
What do you think?  Do you like the effect of bokeh or are some pictures just too blurry?

You know I am a fan of Bokeh! My favorite shot is the one of the roses with the clock blurred in the background, but they are all good! Thank you so much for joining.

I like the look, I just had no idea what it was called. I get that look sometimes with a macro shot, but my point and shoot doesn't capture it often. I think the photos are beautiful that way. I don't think I'd like it if they were of people...not sure.

I am a Bokeh fan...Actually I am thrilled Tracy challenged me to explore how to get the effect using my camera settings v's doing it in my post editing...Must quicker and will be able to put it to use in my doll photography in the future...

All your examples are just lovely, thanx for sharing

I think they all look great and not too blurry at all. I like the blurry background because you focus on the main piece. Are you taking these strictly with your camera setting or altering them? I always fix mine in Picnik but I know a lot of people use Picasa also.

I have a Cannon Rebel too. I have not purchased a macro lens but it is high on the list. I do like how easy it is on our cameras to switch to AV mode and adjust the aperture. Great shots here. Just beautiful.

All of your shorts are absolutely beautiful! Love the spider and the roses in front of the clock. I'm really behind the curve, but gave it a shot.

Hi Sherry!
I find that many of my macro photos come out with a bokeh element so I'm glad they are supposed to look that way. I think a whole blog full of bokeh picture mightcaue a little eye strain but as an accent photo here and there they look beautiful and artistic.

Sherry, I don't know anything about photography, but I do know what I like when I see it. Your photos are very nicely done. I especially like the effect of the lights and the spider, because to me, it looks as if the spider is weaving a mysterious web.

I suppose I can relate to what your husband meant on the 4th photo of the post(the tray w/ cup and gifts). Your focus was the gift boxes, but for some reason my eyes wanted to take in more of that particular composition and couldn't because the blur was very prominent.

Having said that, I otherwise like what your doing with your photos. It's always fun to try things out. And it just proves that everything is relative. What one person sees in something, another person sees something else. So always do what's right for you, have fun with it, and you can't go wrong.

Great post,
Marianne
