It is time to take a break and get ready for the business of the holiday season. I am trying out a new cookie recipe and crafting with the last of my garden spoils before winter.
I had saved this teacup for Veteran's Day because of the red poppies on it but, I discovered that in America the red poppy is really intended for Memorial Day. In Britain, however the red poppy is a symbol of Remembrance Day, ( often called Poppy Day), in remembrance of the ending of World War I.
Okay without going into a lengthy history lesson, (of which I could, because I was just over at the above link reading with fascination about the whole Poppy Day story...sigh, GEEK) here is my teacup made by Grace's Teaware.
This teacup was beautiful. It even had a delicate pattern embossed in the rim of cup and saucer.
Now, about that crafting with the garden spoils... I gathered the last of these lovely ferns this week and crafted candle rings. I love how they turned out.
I often love to bring the outdoors in and use it in different ways. I'll see how these do when they dry out. I have never tried this before.
Are you crafting for the holidays yet?
Sherry

So pretty and so cozy Sherry. ;) I just love the color red - it always speaks to me. I bet that greenery will dry out really lovely too.
Plus, I LOVE that you're a geek and read up on historical things like that. Lol!
Blessings. xoxo
Well it's funny how one thing leads to another when you're looking something up, right? Anyway, that's what happens to me. :-) Beautiful poppy teacup and saucer! I'm hoping to get crafty pretty soon. I want to make an evergreen wreath.
Love the beautiful poppy teacup! In Canada, we wear a red poppy as a sign of remembrance.
Very pretty teacup, and your ferns look so pretty; almost Christmas-esque! Can't wait! :)
Hi Sherry!
What a GORGEOUS teacup and I'm in LOVE with you candle rings!
I've been away from blog land for a long time (life has been so busy for me this year) but am just now getting back to visiting with all my friends! It was so fitting to open your post this morning on this Remembrance Day where images of poppies in my city abound today! Just lovely.
I've missed you! XO Wishing you a beautiful day!
Hugs,
Linda at Beautiful Ideas
Sherry, your Poppy teacup and saucer couldn't be more perfect for today's tea! It is really pretty and I like the shape too. We wear poppies here in Canada for Remembrance Day because we follow the traditions of Britain. Hubby and I actually start wearing them on Halloween. {I think I told you once before that Canada is part of the British Commonwealth.} Your candles are wonderful and the perfect way to use up the rest of your garden ferns. Thanks so much for sharing and enjoy your day.
Autumn blessings,
Sandi
Really pretty!
What a lovely poppy tea cup...and so are your candles!
Love the tea cup!
Your poppy teacup is so perfect for today! I am sipping on some Christmas tea as I read your blog :-)
Love the touch of Fall you have brought in from the garden. Your photographs are beautiful you have such talent.
Lovely teacup. I have begun to think about starting some crafts for christmas - but I'll get there - making soap is the first project.
I love the bright pop of the poppies, and perfect for Rembrance or poppy day...I scheduled a posted for yesterday on Veteran's Day about the Tower Of London poppies last year. Your displays are gorgeous! So cozy indeed. Thanks for linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea.
