One of my favorite magazines to premiere this summer was Romantic Prairie Style by Fifi O'Neill. The magazine delivered much inspiration and drool worthy interiors all with a vintage twist.

The vintage all mixed with the rustic was so up my alley. I couldn't help but be intrigued by this one home photographed with the deer antlers mounted right on the wall! I happened to have a set of antlers just like this! What to do...what to do. I thought about it awhile. Should I just mount them right on the wall?
Well bare antlers can look amazing in a lot of spaces. I am not against mounting them as is. But, I wanted to display them in my dining room so, I thought they needed a little more modesty. Yes, that meant I was going to try taxidermy! How hard could this project be right? Here are my supplies: wooden plaque, antlers, hot glue gun, leather square, and upholstery tacks.
I spray painted the wooden plaque first. I then hot glued the antlers to the plaque. Then I sketched out a pattern for my leather cover.
I then cut the leather out.
I then trimmed the leather even more and positioned the tacks.
I did a few tacks to anchor it first.
The bland spray paint just wasn't the look I was wanting so I sanded that up and applied a glaze to the whole plaque to make it look a little more aged.
So here is where I wanted to put them, right above my buffet in the dining room. I was pleased with how they turned out. It wasn't hard at all to do this. A bit of a rustic touch for fall and winter.
That vine hanging in the side of the photo above is this. I found a real bittersweet vine for fall!!! Love this stuff, talk about fabulously rustic, bittersweet is it!

That really looks wonderful. It's perfect with your display.
:D Neat!!! I subscribed to Romantic Prairie Style, but I have not received a copy yet!
What a lovely Fall vignette. I especially like how you added the microscope and globe.
Nice job mounting the antlers. They're perfect for Fall and I LOVE bittersweet, but I never see any growing here in the Atlanta area. Yours looks so good on top of your pie safe.

You did good! I love it and Fall is really falling around in your house.
Be a sweetie,

Now THAT is very clever. Isn't the design world funny and strange? A few years ago you could find these antlers at thrift stores for pennies. Now they are sold at upper end design shops for a fortune. If only we could predict the next trends we would be rich! I love how yours turned out.
How creative! You sure did a wonderful job mounting them. The whole look is wonderful.
The antlers look great! Love the vignette. Isn't it fun to get decorating ideas from magazines? Gina
so just cute, so clever! love this, sherry:)
I love everything I see on your blog! Great work!
Oh, I love it! The entire vignette is beautiful and it adds the perfect amount of rustic charm.
Great Job! It looks great! The antlers I have are all singles that just lay in my vignettes here and there! I like yours on the wall.
I really like it and it looks pretty all "covered" up. I haven't heard of this magazine before so will check it out. I just wonder were does everyone find the antlers, I have never seen them anywhere except in pretty homes like yours. Your entire vignette looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration with Sunday’s Best – you helped make the party a success!
Love your pie safe and your nail head detail! Very pretty!
Would love for you to share over at Carter's Cottage, My Monday Muse :)
Love the antlers! I have some that I don't know what to do with, either. Thinking of spray painting them white. Great job!
