Vintage Books and Some Tea

I have a little tea for one today.  When it is winter I get more creative with my centerpieces out of necessity.

Have any of you noticed these vintage books in the shops or catalogs.  It is an old copy of a hardbound book with the cover ripped off.  I have been seeing them frequently and I thought I would create some.  I got mine at the thrift store.  I first looked for all of the books with a blue tag; those were 50% off, and then I picked out the thickest and most yellowed page books I could find.  The best results are with the hardbound books, you get a real vintagey look from the ripped off binding.   They make great risers for your vignettes.  I made the cloche out of an old clock.  You can read about that here.

Tea pot and cup were from TJ Maxx.

I will link to these parties:

I did books today, too, Sherry. I like yours and will look around for hardcovers at thrift stores. A book fair would be a good place too..we have one coming up in May. Until then I just used old paperbacks I found in the basement. I have several hardcovers but don't want to take the covers off.

I love your vignette. It's gorgeous.

So pretty and inviting! I hadn't seen the ripped up books before, but they look very warm and old that way. You just never know what the next rave will be.

The vintage books look great; I might have to try it if I can just convince myself it's ok to rip the cover off. My love of books makes this a tough task.

I rally like your teapot it is so cute.

I like recycling old books ... ones that are too far gone to be read... saving the bindings to use on handmade books and the pages in collage. Enjoyed your vinette and love the teapot and teacup ... three cheers for TJMAXX!
