Winter Garden 18th Century Style

Cloak in Snow
We have had our first snow here, and I took advantage of it by taking a turn around the garden 18th century style in my Kinsale cloak.

Cloak in Snow
I have had this cloak since I was a teen. My mother made it for me from a historical pattern. I think this December I will do fun posts. Maybe just pretty pictures!

Modest

Modest: The Charm of Home

A message from the Lord, for me too.

And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
                                                                                                     1 Timothy 2:9-10

This one is hard for me.  I like clothes.  But, that last line...becoming attractive by the good things they do. I could see value in that.

I question myself now, am I thinking like man or like Jesus would want me to.
Remember what Jesus said to Peter when Peter wanted to stop Jesus from going into Jerusalem and getting killed.

Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God's."
                                                                      Matthew 16:23

Do you think like the world on fashion or like Jesus would want you to?

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
                                                                       Romans 12:2

Blessings to you,
Sherry

Spa Night...It's a Sane Thing

Every summer I have started this little ritual where Friday night is Spa Night.  You show off more skin in the summer, your toes are peaking out of your sandals, and the schedule seems to go at a slower pace; so, there is time for it .   It is just something I do for myself.  My husband says, "You do what?"  "It is Spa Night dear, never mind you wouldn't understand."

I never go anywhere, I don't spend any money, I just pull out the scrubs, lotions, and manicure supplies and I take care of me.

I don't get away, ever.  The kids are still here and I still wait on them; it's unavoidable.

This is just one of those little things I like to do for myself.  It is a sane thing.   Do you have any summer rituals?  Is there anything you can enjoy more during summer's slower pace?

Fashion Solutions to Allergies

I don't know how the rest of you are doing, but allergies have took their toll on me this year and last.  The Dr. Oz Show this week addressed this issue with this video clip which you can view.  Click the picture above and it will take you to my Pinterest page and then click Dr. Oz's picture again and it will take you to the video clip on his website.   Dr. Oz interviewed an allergist with some smart strategies for managing this allergy season.  I was surprised to find out that a simple solution is to mechanically block pollen from your face and eyes with a wide brimmed hat and large sunglasses.

When you refer to big sunglasses the first image that comes to mind is Jackie O.  She always had such a timeless style and wore the signature large sunglasses.

Here Jackie is again with some large sunglasses and hair scarves that almost would mechanically block pollen.

So it is no surprise that starting last spring the wide brimmed hat and sunglasses began to make their way back on the runway.

So we don't have to be celebrities to be sporting our large hats and sunglasses anymore, we just have to suffer from allergies.  (Ashley Tisdale)

So go ahead and grab a big hat and sunglasses.  It's the latest trend and it's practical.  (Stylist Rachel Zoe)
Are you suffering form allergies too?
