A Potting Shed

Potting Shed

With hundreds of seedlings needing transplanting, I decided to remodel a shed and turn it into a potting shed. It was an underused space in my garden, and I really needed to get out of the kitchen repotting and starting seeds, so this was a perfect solution.

Potting Shed
It was a really basic and ugly shed, but with a coat of white paint and a rearrangement of the shelving, I was surprised how my ugly duckling progressed.

I am pleasantly surprised how it is turning out. This side is just about like I wanted it, but I am still working on the other side. This is the rustic potting table and flower-arranging spot.

There is even room for the bistro to stay out and be styled. Here I have my white lilacs, which look lavender when they open, in a vintage ironstone pitcher.

Spring Potting Shed
I used it for the first time this past weekend and stayed out there repotting summer plants for hours, and it is awesome!

Yes, it will be a very nice gardener's cottage, we all need that, I have a covered terrace, I'm decorating that right now and I'm thinking how convenient it would be to close that space with transparent plastic sliding doors, so that in the winter I can close it and get a small greenhouse for growing seedlings earlier.

Total transformation! That white paint made a world of difference. It looks so bright, organized, and inviting now. I love the rustic table and the ironstone pitcher. It’s the perfect blend of practical and pretty. Knowing you’ve already spent hours out there repotting tells me this was the best weekend project ever. Happy planting.

There is something so therapeutic about a dedicated potting shed—it’s that one place where making a mess is actually part of the job. White paint was a genius move, too; sheds can get so dark and "spider-webby," but that brightness makes it feel like an actual room instead of just a storage box. And having a vintage ironstone pitcher with lilacs right next to your workspace? That is some top-tier gardening luxury.

Is the "other side" you're working on going to be more for heavy-duty storage (pots, soil bags), or are you planning to extend the styling over there too? Either way, sounds like a "Victory" indeed.

I am using more styling and fun, but it is a very usable space. I don't like to look at the bags of dirt. I have got a lot of props for gardening though.

Sorry I'm late catching up Sherry. We had been on a trip to Hawaii. Slowly catching up on life. This is such a genius use of the shed! I loved how you transformed it and I dream of having a potting shed or little green house one day. I would just live in it and in the garden. Happy planting! 💚🌸
