French Inspired

How do you all get inspired?  What are your best sources?  I wanted you to talk to me today about this.

Have some coffee with me.   Where do you get your inspiration for your decorating.

I live in a really rural area with very few magazine racks and very few resources in the library.  My best ideas have come from you.  The blogs are a wonderful way to see what is going on.

I joined Courtney last week for Feathered Nest Friday at The French Country Cottage and she had a post about her inspirations and the first book she featured was The French Inspired Home by Carolyn Westbrook.  Of course I had heard of this book before on blogs, but I have looked for it for awhile and not found it, so I ordered it.   I am now so inspired, this book was beautiful.  Some images from the book below, photography by Keith Scott Morton.

This was very Shabby Chic, I get this look.

 How beautiful is this?

Wouldn't you like to blog here?

All the photos above from the book: The French Inspired Room by Carolyn Westbrook.

A few parting shots from me.  Thanks for stopping by for coffee, please leave a comment sharing your favorite inspirations. This is another re-post.  I am doing some housekeeping on the blog and sharing some favorite posts this week that fit the season.

  1. I have this beautiful book, too.
So many of the rooms just take my breath away..but not sure I could actually live in them, day in and day out. We are such casual people, living out here in West Texas.
I adore getting ideas from catalogs and mostly, BLOGS. :))

  3. The French inspired room looks like a wonderful book. I have been inspired by many books and magazines over the years. I still love the Romantic Homes Magazine. Cottage Living was one of my all time favorites and I still spend time thumbing through old issues. Victoria magazine and all of their books are great and of course I have learned so much and been inspired by blogs these past few months. You have inspired me to do a post, it has been over a week.

  6. Thank you for commenting. I really wanted to know where you guys were looking for inspiration. I also love Romantic Homes, Victoria, Country Living, and Traditional Home. That is about all we have around my neck of the woods. I recently discovered the website of Restoration Hardware and of course I love Pottery Barn. Sources have dried up somewhat at this time. Magazines I could find 2 years ago just aren't around anymore. Thanks for giving me your sources it is my best reference yet!

  7. I have really been wanting this book but I still need some time to look at the ones that hubby gave me for Christmas. So, thanks for sharing the pictures. Isn't honeysuckle a funny name for this shade of pink?

I usually order my books from Amazon.com. They have the best prices and ship really fast. Check them out.

Oh, I love your pretty china. I'd love to have coffee with you!

  16. Ok, I drooled all over the place. I love every picture. They are all just wonderful and such great inspiration and eye candy. The office with the deer head made me think of the theme I am going to use for the guest room. All of your comments and suggestions for the room were so wonderful. Gave me tons to think about. I also went to the sites you suggested and drooled some more. Thanks for the help, I love getting input, helps steer me in the right direction. Hugs, Marty

  17. Love the tulips! I get inspired everywhere. Sometimes it is in nature, it can be some item I find at a thrift store, certainly from magazines and blogs. I think if you open your eyes you can find ideas anywhere!

  19. Your French-inspired tablescape is beautiful with the gorgeous toile table covering. Hmmmm....toile. Toile generally depicts the countryside. Countryside...rural. Hmmm...!!!Living in a rural area, I would think that you could find TONS of inspiration all around you!!! Rural areas have all the elements that take us back to a simpler time with nature all around (instead of concrete and towering buildings and honking horns!). I can't tell from your profile what age group you fall in, but I am old enough to remember when as children we let our imaginations rule our creativity. That's what I imagine rural living would inspire. Trends are cool, but I'll bet you have a TON of great ideas in your head that are just dying to get out!!! And we wanna see 'em! Have a great weekend!!!!!

  28. The photos are wonderful (no interest in the cowboy/boy room!) The dark china hutch has inspired me to look at an option for our built-in kitchen china hutch. Maybe charcoal would work with its leaded glass windows! Thanks

  35. What a pretty book.

My bungalow is pretty small...I can't decorate very much, but occasionally I'll but This Old House magazine or there is one called ( I think ) Cottages and Bungalows. Growing up and then when I was young raising a family I'd always buy Country Living magazine but it's not worth the price anymore....it is far different and more modern than country.

Other than a few magazines here and there I mostly enjoy looking at bloggers decor ! :)
