Apple Stack Tea

Apple Stack Tea: The Charm of Home
I made my cheater version of apple stack cake this week.  It is a traditional Appalachian recipe.  I went out of my way to make it gooey!  Nothing says fall is coming more than an apple dessert, snuggly quilts, and a steaming hot drink.

The way I made this was with a spice cake boxed mix and ready-made cream cheese icing.  I just sauteed four large apples with 4 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar.  I added the pecans for looks but, I discovered they discolored the apples.  So, I won't do that again.  I have seen the cake iced with just the pecans on top and the apples in the middle.  It tasted delicious.  The children gave it really good reviews and it is just about gone in 24 hours.

The teacup is hinting at dry and crunchy fall leaves.  The teacup is made by Grace's Teaware.

Apple Stack Tea: The Charm of Home
Have any of you made an apple stack cake before?  There are many versions of it.  I would love to make another one with more stacks and maybe apple butter between the layers. Some of the cakes are even more like a stack of cookies.  A very intresting recipe.

  4. What a delicious looking cake!
May I suggest if the pecans are discolouring the apples, might it be prevented if the nuts were candied? They look so good on the top it is a shame to not have them there.

  11. Sherry,
No, dear friend, I haven't made a stacked cake before, but yours looks divinely delicious!
"Mr. Ed" loves "pecans", so I would probably add them to his individual piece!
Thank you for the inspiring snack idea!
    Fondly,
    Pat
