Garden Picnic Tea

Garden Picnic Tea: The Charm of Home
Today it is time to get outside again and have a pretend picnic.  I am working in the garden and it was a perfect spot to set my picnic basket.

Just behind the picnic basket is the broccoli.  That looks like I will be picking it this week.

The picnic basket is filled with the spring and summer Brambly Hedge china and a lace table runner from Heritage Lace.

I found a book on the shelf for the picture and a pressed fall leaf fell out of it.  I am know to stick plant life in books and forget that it is there.

I normally grow the cut and come again zinnias but this year I tried this low bush variety and they are really pretty.  They have been providing non-stop blooms for the whole season.

I am so happy with my snapdragons.  I grew them from seed. They are just starting to bloom.

One of the sunflowers opened up this week too.  These sunflowers have blooms all down the stalk.  I haven't ever grown any like this before.

Have you been in the garden lately?  I can't believe it is August already!  That fall leaf is a reminder to start planning for the change of seasons.

Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
for wisdom and power are his.
He causes the changes of the times and seasons,
makes kings and unmakes them.
He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge
to those who understand.

Thank you to Heritage Lace for providing the Floret lace table runner.

  2. Your flowers look so lovely and I really like the dishes so pretty. We are having a long heat wave that is preventing me from going out and really enjoying our garden.

  4. Your garden is beautiful! Snapdragons and sunflowers are very happy flowers. Pinned your pretty tea picture to my Tea and Crumpets board. I planted sunflowers for the first time this year so the chickens can have the seeds. Do you recall what variety the multi-flowered one is? Planted a smaller variety but next year will plant the sunflowers next to the chicken run with mint at the base.

  5. Donna, I have no idea what variety that sunflower is. I know that one of the varieties I planted was Evening Sun, because I still have the package, but there is another sunflower that is almost 10 feet tall and that might be another variety. Here is a reference to sunflower varieties: http://www.gardenersnet.com/flower/sunflowerseeds.htm

    Hope that helps!

  7. I think that a picnic as a break from gardening is a lovely idea, especially when one has such an appropriate china pattern!
I really need to remember to plant zinnias next year. I planted snapdragons last year and they all came back from self-seeding. What a lovely bonus that was!
