I have stumbled upon a trend with my "naked cakes". I didn't realize they were so popular. I mean really it looks like I forgot to ice some of it.... This naked cake looked like it had blossoms strewn on the top. The sort of blossoms that a toddler would pick for his Mother, you know the ones that have no stems.
I always took these blossoms, from a child, with the highest of praise for the thoughtful gift. I always keep them on the counter floating in a glass of water.
So my naked cake reminds me of something only a Mother would love; like that gift from her child during those tender years.
This cake is a French vanilla cake mix with a layer of seedless blackberry jam and regular vanilla icing. The flowers on top are all edible; lilac, English daisy, and dianthus. The pansy teacups are by Gracie china.
Do you have fond memories of a sweet child giving you a handful of blossoms?
Sherry

Hello Sherry,
ReplyDeleteYes, I definitely think you are on to something good : )
I love your naked cakes, and this one looks scrumptious! I would really like a slice please : )
Your tea cups look gorgeous next to your flower topped cake!
Happy Tea Day!
Hugs,
Terri
Very pretty! I prefer these "undecorated' cakes too! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cake - lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteSherry, your naked cake looks scrumptious! Yes, I have many memories of my little guys bringing me freshly picked posies. I remember one day my oldest brought me a bouquet that included many bugs and Hubby and I had a doozy of a time getting rid of them too. *smiles*
ReplyDeleteThe teacups say springtime as well as your cake. A lovely post!
Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby as well! Seems we have much in common with three boys and an anniversary in May, as well as our love of tea time! Have a beautiful day, my friend.
Blessings,
Sandi
Oh my your cake looks delish!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely. Mmmmm...that cake! It was around this time of year that my kids would always bring me dandelions. That's why, to this day, they are still beautiful to me. Deb

Oh Sherry your cake looks to pretty to eat...but it sounds to good not too!!
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks pretty, delicious and I like the state of nakedness. It reminded me that my mother always filled the middle of our cakes with jam, no icing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful teacups and your cake! I need do do this when my flowers start blooming. Easy, but so pretty!
ReplyDeleteNancy
Hi Sherry,
ReplyDeleteOoops it was a typo! I dropped the R. I meant to say - "it looks like you have started something"... like a fabulous trend!
sorry!
Hugs,
Bella
The cake looks yummy and the little flowers sprinkled on top adds more delicate appeal to it.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a good week.
Oh, I think I have to have a slice right now! It looks just scrumptious and so pretty!

ReplyDeleteI discovered this kind of cake several years ago at Miette bakery in San Francisco. This style is called a 'Tomboy Cake."
I love their old-fashioned look too.
Yours is quite beautiful with the flowers!
Thanks so much for sharing.
Have a great day Sherry,
Suzanne
This type of cake is the first cake I remember from our Sunday Dinner's and my Grandmother's house. I had forgotten that memory until I started to blog.

very pretty cake with the flowers on it. Anything from my children was sweet, even wilted dandelions!
ReplyDeleteI love naked cakes. I recently discovered this new trend myself...funny thing I've been making cakes like this for ages! Haha! :D
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful and it sounds divine, Sherry.
Toodles,
Tammy<3
Shhh....don't tell...but I'm not a huge fan of eating frosting so a naked cake is perfect to me!! And yours sounds absolutely delectable.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little girl I had been given strict orders to NOT pick flowers. And because I got in trouble once with the mean old lady next door...that sealed the deal for me. She took a lot of fun out of my tender young life. (And believe me we prayed for her, too.)
I hope you'll share your sweet treat with us a Project Inspire{d}!!
Hope your weekend is Extraordinary!
What a sweet post! And the cake is so pretty to look at and sounds scrumptious!Love the sprinkling of flowers on top...sooo romantic:)Have a lovely day, Sherry!~hugs, Poppy
ReplyDeleteWish I had a piece of your yummy cake in this rainy afternoon with a hot cuppa tea! Thank you for having us for tea.

ReplyDeleteSherry, I think this is so pretty! I always laugh over those who ate edible flowers! I am sure I have nibbled on a few in my life. The dandelion flower never lied when put under my chin as to whether I liked butter or not!
ReplyDeleteI also think I would like a cake with a bit less frosting! Now, I can frost my cakes like this and say this is the latest style...
Lovely as Always, Roxy
Thanks for coming to the PARTY!
