Summer Brambly Hedge

Today I am showing off my summer Brambly Hedge tea set.  I found this at the local thrift store a few months ago.  You can see my post on the spring  sets in Brambly Hedge and More Brambly Hedge.

The tea sets are always decorated with the beautiful art from the Brambly Hedge books.  The summer plate is surrounded with a blossoming blackberry cane that has a lot of little green blackberries all over it.

I happen to have some blackberry canes in bloom and full of little green blackberries right now.  These blackberry canes are special because my Grandfather gave them to me and he recently passed away.  He was always working tending his property and shop.  So it is really special I have these blackberries.  Every summer when I make a cobbler I think of him.  I even made him a cobbler one year from these very berries and took it to him for his birthday.

I also love having the blackberries in my yard because it reminds me of growing up in Kentucky and picking the blackberries in the roadside brambles along the lane.  From these brambles I made a cobbler or two for myself when I was a teen.  Here is the Brambly Hedge book.  I had to get the book after finally getting to collect all of this beautiful china.   The book also has blackberries all around the cover.

This is the Summer Story that matches my summer tea set.  It is about a little pair of mice having a wedding.

My youngest son still enjoys me reading to him and he loved the art in the story that depicted the elaborate working mills etc. the mice have in the tree trunks.

A real summer pleasure having tea in my Brambly Hedge tea set and reading a sweet story to my son.

  15. Hello Sherry,
What a beautiful post! I love Brambly hedge, but do not own any of the pieces yet. Your cup is wonderful!
We had blackberries as well as raspberries in our backyard when I was a little girl. A highlight of summer was getting to pick them and eat them immediately. Yum : )
Thank you so much for sharing!
    Hugs,

  19. Hi Sherry - Such a sweet tea set and series this is. Why would someone cast it off to a thrift shop rather than treasure it? All the better for you, I daresay! It is reminiscent of Beatrix Potter art, and she is a great favorite of mine. Blessings to you!

  21. You share such lovely things, pretty things on your blog.

It makes me want to give up my rustic/early American garage sale look. Actually, I couldn't even describe my look.

    Oh, now I'm smiling!

  26. Dear Sherry,
I love your post about Brambly Hedge and your grandfather too.
My children had some of those books and received some birthday cards with Jill Barklam's detailed and charming illustrations which we all loved. Each picture is something to linger over to see all the little details.
You are so lucky to have the china. So glad you shared it with us and that you enjoy it.

(I did a post in the spring on one of the little figurines, Mrs. Apple. They are darling and something else you can add to your collection)

  27. Sherry, it's moments like this that will create a special bond between you and your son. He will always remember. I love your sweet tea set and the book is precious! I love blackberries. Wish I had room to grow them. My cousins daughter has lots and sometimes gives them to me. I made a cobbler that was delicious. Yours are so special, coming from your grandfather. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
