Mercury Glass

I found something in the thrift store last week and I think it is the real deal.  Anybody an expert on mercury glass.  I think this is a mercury glass vase.

This is inside.

This is the bottom.

Here is the base of it.

It will look great for Christmas.  It has no chips or cracks just the aged patina.  What do you think?

  3. Yes, you have a real antique mercury glass vase. In it's day it was known as,"poor mans silver." People could not afford silver so glass companies began to make mercury glass, which sold for much yes. It was out of production for awhile as mercury was harmful to the factory workers who made it. They are making it today, but not with mercury, today they use a metal leave tissue applied to the inside. Your vase is a very nice example. Richard from My Old Historic House.

  4. Yep, you scored one there. You have a beautiful old mercury glass vase and I am SO envious! My thrift stores don't usually have such wonderful treasures and if they do, there's usually a big crack or something. Woo! Hoo!
