Be Prepared

Be prepared.  Anybody remember that, it was our Girl Scout motto.   Well, you do what you can.  You get some food and get out the candles.  And then you wait.

And you watch it rain and rain and rain in 30 degree temps.  I took these pictures right before nightfall Tuesday.  They were my before shots.  I was expecting to get some after shots Wednesday morning that would show how bad it got.  The streets were still warm and only wet so we took a drive.  We thought we would see how things looked before night came.  We saw a few power lines down already.  Trees were hanging on some lines that hadn't fallen.  And then in a vacant lot in an old shopping mall....

...we saw this.

Was I impressed!  There were over 15 utility workers standing by on the ready.

Rows of sweet utility trucks waiting for our power outages!

 Six...count em....six tree trimming trucks!

We passed more in town already at work.  I have to say thank you IDOT.  You were prepared!  I was so impressed.  So, there weren't any after shots.  The trees surrounding our house were pounded by the wind all night (the wind seemed to beat the ice out of the trees) and then in the morning it wasn't so bad.

  1. Oh mygosh..I know the feeling..in 2009 we were not prepared and the county was without power for 11 days..yes, eleven days..we were freezing. All hotels were booked. We had frozen pipes and slept in front of the fireplace..then a good, good friend brought us to use a generator..I cried. Ice is unforgiven. Glad you did not lose power and happy your utility co. was ready! Love that GS motto!

  4. Hi, Sherry! So glad you didn't have to do without power! That's always such a bummer!!! The ice looks pretty bad, though. I'd rather have snow than ice ANY day of the week! We got about 12 inches here yesterday. I am SO sick of this weather!!! Stay safe and warm, and thanks for stopping by my blog earlier this evening! Have a good week!

  5. Allthose trucks ready to go to work really is impressive. We had icy roads followed by snow and winds but no power outages, thank goodness. What a mess this blizzard has caused!

  6. Oh, Sherry, I hope you are safe and warm. Thinking of you. I am impressed with how prepared they are, but i hope those trucks don't have to go out at all.

  7. Hi Sherry ~ I'm so glad that your storm wasn't so bad after all. Isn't it comforting knowing that those guys were just waiting to come to your aid? How wonderful! We got 18" of snow, and luckily didn't lose any power in the screaming winds. What a crazy winter it's been! :)

  8. I so enjoyed your post! you had me laughing!

I live in Maine and while we have about 3 feet of snow outside our door - we haven't lost our electricity yet (thank goodness!). But we learned our lesson the hard way, a few years back we had a wicked snow storm & lost power for 4 days and did not have a generator. Needless to say ... we have one now!

  9. Thos utility workers are the real heroes when these storms come. We are so used to having power that it is so hard not to have it. Now where is my flashlight and do I have batteries? Joni
