Yes, we often eat our French toast with whip cream, syrup, and berries. (One of my husband's favorite vacation restaurants is IHOP, go figure!)
The recipe was straight out of my Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook; 1989 version, and it is now just a stack of pages. I have worn it to pieces looking up something to cook.
Ingredients:
2 beaten eggs
1/2 cup of milk
1/4 TSP vanilla
1/8 TSP ground cinnamon
5 1-inch-thick slices French bread or 6 slices of white bread
Margarine
Maple syrup
In a shallow bowl beat eggs , milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Dip bread into egg mixture, coating both sides.
In a hot (med. heat) skillet or on a griddle cook bread on both sides in a small amount of margarine or butter for 2-3 min. on each side or until golden brown. Add more margarine as needed.
Serve with maple flavored syrup, berries, and whip cream.
Yields: 5-6 slices
