Blackberry Scones for Christmas in July

The Charm of Home: Christmas in July
Today I am joining Natasha at Keeping the Christmas Spirit Alive 365 for a Christmas in July linky party.  I decided to have a little tea with some blackberry scones.  This might be something you could actually do in December.  Most of the groceries carry berries for dessert at Christmas or you could buy them frozen.

The Charm of Home: Blackberry Scones
The blackberry scones turned out delicious!  They were reportedly best hot out of the oven and they didn't last more than a few hours on the counter!

 Blackberry Cream Scones
Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
3 tablespoons cold butter, cut into chunks
1/3 cup cream
 for glaze:
1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 teaspoons cream

Directions:
Preheat oven to 425.
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut in the butter with pastry blender and work mixture together until it resembles coarse sand. Add the blackberries.
Add the cream and mix until a dough forms. Make an small circle (6-8 inches across) with the dough and slice into 8 small wedges (each wedge should be only about two-three inches). Place wedges on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, until golden brown.
*I put an egg white wash over mine scones before baking. Take the white of one egg and brush over scones.
To make the glaze, mix together the powdered sugar and cream.  Drizzle over the scones.
Serves:4-8

The Charm of Home: Christmas in July
My Christmas teacup is by Portmeirion, the pattern is the Holly and the Ivy.

The Charm of Home: Christmas in July
The verse on the side of the cup reads:
The holly and the ivy
when they are both full grown
of all the trees that
are in the wood
the holly wears the crown.

Here is a recap of last year's Christmas tea in which I made White Chocolate and Peppermint Scones recipe in the link.

Why didn't I think of this! We have tons of wild blackberries growing in our woods but they are finished for the season...next year I will do this! Thanks for the idea!

Yup, I knew I'd like your recipe. It looks like the type of scones I prefer. . .1/4 c sugar means they're not too sweet. I've pinned it to my Recipes To Try board. Thanks for sharing, Sherry. ~ Nancy
